The 10 Most High-Tech SUVs On The Market

SUV

When it comes to buying a car, consumers continue to say that bigger is better. SUVs and trucks continued to outsell smaller sedans in September. But not all SUVs are created equal. Here the round up all the ones on the market with the most advanced features.

1. Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 is a roomy and luxurious SUV, but it also has several high-tech features. For example, there are four hidden cameras to provide 360-degree views when driving and parking.

2. Audi Q7

Audi gave its 2017 Q7 SUV a major tech upgrade. It has a driver-assistant system that can sense emergency situations and prepare accordingly by braking and closing the windows and sunroof to secure the car. Drivers can also opt to upgrade to the more advanced driving-assistant system that includes backup assist to prevent collisions while reversing and advanced cruise control to keep the car in its lane and keep up with traffic on highways.

3. Tesla Model X

The Tesla Model X has a sleek exterior with its sweeping, falcon-wing doors. The best part of the Model X is arguably that it is a luxury car with Tesla's Autopilot feature, which lets the car steer, brake, and even change lanes for you while driving on the highway. A front-facing camera mounted at the top of the windshield helps identify pedestrians and read speed-limit signs.

4. Range Rover SVAutobiography

Range Rover's SVAutobiography is an extremely luxurious SUV with a surround camera system. You can also open the trunk just by waving your hand. There aren't three rows of seats, but the second row has a massage function and can recline for extra comfort. There's also a folding table that comes out of the center console and a small refrigerating area for keeping drinks cool.

5. Bentley Bentayga

The Bentley Bentayga is so luxurious that there's a version that comes with its own fine china set. It also has eight driver modes, including cruise control and an off-road driving setting. The car comes with numerous driver aids, like a warning system that will detect obstacles in the rear when you're pulling out of a parking space.

6. Mitsubishi Outlander

The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is able to detect pedestrians and blind spots to aid in preventing accidents. It also can detect oncoming vehicles from behind for when you're reversing. The car comes with three drive modes: electric, hybrid, and parallel hybrid (powered by the motor but assisted by the electric motor). The car is capable of selecting the best drive mode based on the road conditions.

7. Lincoln MKX

The 2017 Lincoln MKX comes with several semiautonomous features, including park assist, which can locate open parking spots and help you reverse into them. There's also lane-keep assist designed to prevent drift. There are also four cameras on the car designed to allow you to see your entire surroundings. You can use a corresponding app to start, lock, unlock, and locate your vehicle remotely.

8. Audi Q5

If you're looking for a good crossover SUV, Audi gave its 2018 Q5 a significant upgrade. The car has 30 ambient-light options and fits five inside. The traditional instrument cluster has been replaced by a 12.3-inch digital screen that allows the driver to pull up a heads-up display on the windshield. There's also an 8.3-inch touchscreen on the console with voice control that can recognize gestures and hand-written entries.

9. Maserati Levante

Maserati's Levante is the brand's very first SUV. It features a suite of semiautonomous features, including adaptive cruise control, rear cross-path detection, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. It comes with an 8.4-inch screen that you can control with a central knob. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SUV starts at $72,600, and there's also a 424-horsepower option that can get to 60 mph in five seconds.

10. Chevrolet Bolt

The Chevy Bolt is a good choice if you're in the market for an electric crossover SUV. The Bolt starts at $36,620 and can drive 240 miles on a single charge. For the price, you're not getting the same number of high-tech features as you would in a Volvo XC90. But it comes with some perks like a digital instrument cluster, lane-keep assist, and a center console that can wirelessly charge your phone.

Volvo's Polestar 1 Hybrid Sports Coupe

Volvo's Polestar 1

Volvo has spun off Polestar into a standalone performance EV brand, and the first vehicle to wear the new logo will be a 600-horsepower sports coupe with 150 km (93 miles) of range before the hybrid's gas engine kicks in.

The Polestar 1 will be built at a new plant under construction in Chengdu, China, which is scheduled to begin production in mid-2019. Polestar will only make 500 of the two-door, 2+2 seat Grand Tourer Coupe but if the demand is there, the automaker will build more as it is not a limited edition and the vehicles are not numbered, said Jonathan Goodman, Polestar chief operating officer. Order banks opened today for handraisers, but pricing has not been announced. Goodman said they have not thought about the subscription cost yet. But to get some idea, he said if someone offered $100,000-plus to buy one, they would likely be accommodated.

At a press event in Shanghai, Polestar's new CEO Thomas Ingenlath said two more vehicles are in the works. Although the Polestar 1 is a hybrid, all future models will be pure electric vehicles, a move that makes Tesla a direct competitor.

The Polestar 1 GT is the halo for the brand, Ingenlath said, and the first to wear the new Polestar logo on the hood. It makes its debut with 600 hp and 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque, and its 93-mile range beats other hybrids on the market today and far exceeds anything the Volvo brand has done to date with its line of T8 hybrids.

2017 Volvo XC60 The Luxury SUV

The 2018 Volvo XC60 (with the xenon headlamps) has been named a Top Safety Pick+ every year since the award’s inauguration in 2013. It has yet again received this honor—the highest rating the IIHS grants—proving it continues to excel in both preventive and protective safety performance. The 2018 Volvo XC60 is just like Dynamic design meets elegant style.
The 2018 Volvo XC60 sports a smart, purposeful look with styling refinements from the inside out. The bold grille, dashing hood and expressive headlights emphasize its confident outward appearance. The meticulously crafted interior features details such as leather comfort seats, walnut inlays and a state-of-the-art infotainment system.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 carries on the Swedish brand's breathtaking visual makeover under the direction of design chief Thomas Ingenlath. With crisp lines, beautifully restrained surfacing, and a dash-to-axle ratio that makes it look like there's a longitudinal engine under the hood, this XC60 presents a more elegant exterior than the previous model. But a rising beltline, subtle haunches over the rear wheels, a more steeply raked windshield and backlight, lower nose, and a shorter wheelbase ensure the XC60 is still perceived as the sportier alternative to the larger XC90.

As with the XC90—and the beautiful S90 sedan and V90 Cross Country wagon—the XC60's interior is a textbook example of 21st century Scandinavian Zen: Studied, airy, and sophisticated. Standard equipment levels are high, with all XC60s available with the nine-inch central touchscreen, moonroof, power front seats, leather on the seat surfaces, and a power tailgate. And, because they're Volvos, all XC60s come standard with an impressive list of safety equipment, including active systems that help avoid collisions, help keep you on the road, and help keep you in the right lane on the road, plus the full complement of passive safety equipment, from curtain airbags to whiplash protection.

The two models tested here illustrate the bandwidth of the new XC60 range. The T5 Momentum is the entry-level XC60, powered by the turbocharged version of Volvo's 2.0-liter direct injection inline-four that delivers 250 hp at 5,500 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque at 1,500 rpm. The only options fitted to our tester are the $1,100 Vision Package, which includes useful driver aids such as blind-spot warning, cross-traffic alert, and various park assist options, and $595 metallic paint, bringing the total price to $44,690.

The First Look of Volvo XC-40 2018

At first look of  Volvo XC40 2018 , which arrives in the U.S. in May next year, bucks the conventional wisdom about how a modern Volvo should look. There's no studied elegance to the exterior surfaces, no calming Swedish zen to the interior ambience. Instead, there's a pugnacious swagger to the XC40 inside and out, with forms, materials, and colors that are reminders that not all Scandinavian designs are a riff on birch wood and mid-century furniture.

Volvo XC-40

Volvo XC40 is the first addition to the Volvo portfolio since the launch of the XC60 in 2008, and the decision to debut the new CMA architecture under an all-new SUV reflects the a dramatic shift in consumer tastes—even in Europe—away from conventional cars to crossovers. Jonas Engstrm, the vehicle line director for the XC40 and other products to be built using CMA, points out global sales of compact SUVs have exploded from less than 100,000 vehicles a year in 2010 and are expected to reach 1 million a year by 2020. It is the fastest-growing vehicle segment in the world.

Volvo XC40 is not only designed to change perceptions. It's also designed to be a game changer, pitching Volvo squarely against Audi's Q3, BMW's X1, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA in the fight for the hearts and wallets of a whole new generation of urban SUV buyers.
