The Orca Black Metallic 2017 Audi Q7 arrived before I got a chance to check out the paperwork on it. There's no denying the beauty and richness of this interior, most of which comes standard with the $49,950 base Q7 (those walnut inlay panels added $350). Patient, frugal aesthetes can therefore certainly be commended for saving the $6,500 premium demanded for sub-6-second acceleration with the supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine option. But it must be noted that said aesthetes earn no green credits for choosing the little engine because the highly stressed four-banger only ekes out one extra city and combined mpg—20/25/22 versus the 3.0's 19/25/21 mpg. You'll want to invest that $6,500 savings in tree planting at www.arborday.org if CO2-reduction is your jam.
